The Dutch Braid
Simple and easy to do yourself, Dutch braids are the perfect plait to begin with (not to mention they look great)! Brush you hair smooth before parting it into three clean, even sections. If you add some styling product or hairspray then this helps to keep stray hairs at bay.
Cross the right section under the central section of hair, then cross the left section underneath the new central section. Keep doing this by picking up thin sections of hair from left to right. To achieve the perfect Dutch braid make sure to cross the hair under instead of over.

The Braided Headband Hairstyle
This braided look works on all hair lengths and is the perfect style to wear half up and half down. It also saves you the hassle of trying to find a headband that matches your outfit, because this one is already on your head!
For the perfect plait, start with freshly washed hair (but damp or dry is fine too). Then, take a large piece of your hair from the crown of your head to behind the ears. After this, separate that hair into three equal strands and then cross the left section over the middle section, and then the right section over the new middle section. Repeat this process until you run out of hair. Once you are done secure with a hair tie and pin the end of the braid behind your ear with a bobby pin.
To make your plait appear thicker and flatter, use the âpancake techniqueâ. This is where you use your fingers to pull at the sections of the braid to loosen it and make it lie flat like a pancake!
Fishtail plaits can be worn with any look â whether youâre going sleek or bo-ho, fishtail plaits can do both. If this is your first time doing a fishtail plait then maybe try with a side ponytail to start.
Split the hair into two smooth, equal parts and then create a much smaller third section from outside of the ponytail. After this, pull the small section across the top of the larger section from left to right, then do this from right to left.
Repeat these steps until you run out of hair. Finally, secure the plait with a hair tie and spray with finishing product for extra hold. Donât worry if your braid looks chunky and tousled as this creates a relaxed bo-ho chic look.
Top Tips to Keep Your Plaits Looking Perfect
Braids and plaits may work loose throughout the day which can work in your favour and create a gorgeous look. However, if you want your hairstyle to stay in place, then follow these top tips to make your braids stay put!
· Add some styling product such as hairspray or dry shampoo to your hair to make it easier to grip.
· Smaller sections of hair means a tight plait. If you want a chunky plait, use thicker sections.
· Tightly braid your hair in the morning and then unravel later for relaxed beach babe waves.
· Hair accessories hide any pins or hair ties in your plait.
